It’s getting close to that time of year again when our Instagram feeds get bombarded by Autumn and Winter wear and every fashionista starts talking about transitional, cross season “must have” pieces.  Well, until our kids go back to school and nursery (and until I have tidied up the skiwear that has been lurking in a mound on the loft room floor since March) I have no time to think about what piece belongs in which season or what will be fashionable in January 2017. That was, until we found this.

Having curly hair is the bane of my life. Yes, I’m lucky to have natural curls, as so many people seem to tell me. However, other than the messy, beach hair look, it is nigh on impossible to make curls look effortless and frizz free.  I have to admit it, I am envious of those girls with straight or slight wavy hair who swish past me daily, badgering me with their perfect neatness. And when I had more time pre children, I attempted that rigorous routine of waking early and straightening my hair to within an inch of its life.  Alas to no avail.

At my age, and with two children to chase after and no time to attempt a curl free “do”, I have learnt to make the most of what I have, and embrace it. So, curls here I come.

We are all guilty of borrowing some jumpers from our other halves, and possibly, even keeping them in our wardrobes indefinitely as they become a firm favourite to slob around in after the kids have gone to bed and we secretly watch a Made in Chelsea catch up.  This common occurrence has made us, here at NotSuchAModelMum, question why we don’t just bite the proverbial bullet and check out the menswear department of one of our favourite brands, and see what they had to offer.

After over a decade of modelling – I have learnt through trial, and many errors – how to dress for a casting. Trying to keep a finger on the ever changing fashion pulse like I used to, whilst taking care of three rambunctious boys, is nigh on impossible; so my casting outfits need to be classic, timeless, and vaguely fashionable.  These outfits need to be versatile. They need to impress potential clients and have to also be worn straight from castings to the school/nursery run and playground playdates.  Gone are the days of changing out of comfortable trainers into vertiginous heels in the nearest Starbucks (yes really) before a casting.

There is nothing better than a Summer’s day with the kids and close friends.  On a hot day in Barcelona, Caroline and I discovered our shared love of wearing blue in the summer.  It’s a simple and obvious choice, whilst also being timeless and classic.  We both like to keep things simple – and summer clothes should work year after year – after all, we have enough things to think about (Kids! Work! Husbands! Friends!) without feeling the need to constantly update our summer wardrobe with pieces we will only wear once.

We have been fortunate enough to have learnt first hand from working with incredible make up artists some tricks of the trade, and, now that we are getting older, we are realising that some of these top tips are really coming into their own.  One tip that is serving us well and is proving indispensable, especially for all those days when concealer just isn’t enough, is adding highlights to the face. No, we haven’t gone all Kardashian on you. This very simple trick helps illuminate your skin, giving a natural looking, even glow when you need it most!

Having children fries your brain in a way that no amount of partying in your previous life can account for. Sleepless nights, 4:45am wake up calls, weaning issues, getting to work on time, the constant worry about the kids…all this leaves little room in the cerebellum for anything else except a quick browse of dailymail.co.uk and a boxset. Even my usual Thursday evening favourite, Question Time, is now met with horror as it beings at 10:30pm, a time when I am usually found drooling in my sleep.

Since moving to Barcelona, I have been lucky enough to cross paths with some interesting and knowledegable people who seem to know a thing or two about the cool, hidden-away places in Barcelona to eat, drink and, maybe, be merry.

“Cashmere in June?!”, I hear you shriek! When the cashmere is this good, and the weather is this bad, then yes, why not! Once in a while, an item of clothing becomes such a wardrobe staple that you can’t imagine it not being part of your life…we exaggerate slightly, but you catch our drift!

There are certain things we cannot stand attempting to buy. Jeans and bras are top of our list, but so is finding the right shade of red lipstick. Images of Marilyn Monroe effortlessly rocking her classic red lips give the illusion that finding the right shade is easy and flattering. The right red lipstick is always something we are on the lookout for, but finding the right shade is always a tiresome process- lips get stained from the first try of a new lipstick. This gives any other lipstick selection after that an unfair colour test. And then it’s the obligatory smile in the mirror wearing the red lipstick that reveals how yellow your teeth are, which then leaves us running for the nearest exit, happily clutching clear lipgloss!
