After enjoying a wonderful Christmas with all the trimmings, there is nothing that can make me feel even more wonderful than the post-Christmas sales… also with all the trimmings!
Here at NotSuchAModelMum, we have both trawled through the seasonal sales, and I have found a must-have winner that is currently on sale for a great price.
Having both lived in New York for a few years, we discovered J Crew for its cashmere and classic American, ‘preppy’ style. A go-to shop for many Americans – the typical J Crew style is typified by its Style Director, the iconic Jenna Lyons – whose ‘preppy’, alternative way of putting clothes and colours together is something we have always admired.
Not normally ones to shop at J Crew in London (the prices!) I found this adorable jacket in the sale at good old Net A Porter. What could be a generic, khaki, cotton twill hoodie has been given a cheeky feminine touch. The peek-a-boo, polka dot, tulle frill at the back of the jacket is just perfect for funking up an otherwise simple piece.
This juxtaposition of nautical hardiness and the disco tulle somehow works brilliantly together, and also works effortlessly with the oversized utilitarian cover up. The tulle at the back gives the jacket a bit of humour – something I want for this time of year, without shouting “look at me” and also has the wearability for many more occasions to come. At this time of year when we have all overindulged, an oversized shape comes in very handy!
The cotton twill is soft and easy to look after, and the pinstripe within the lining adds another little detail that I love. The pinstriping pops out on the inside of the hood and the sleeves. Despite being designer, it is also a practical jacket with its draw string hood – to help protect you from those rainy days. Plus, with a handy pocket to store those snotty kids tissues in, I can be practical and look good at the same time – something that only became a bonus since I became a mother!
Under the hoodie I am wearing a scalloped, lace-edged, Asos body, and I’ve styled this jacket with a simple Joseph straight leg trouser. The satin finish of these trousers adds a little extra glam to this look, and these trousers are perfect as a staple item for your wardrobe. I love this whole look for its playfulness and style… it is definitely a winter winner in my book.
