Getting out the door with the three kids in tow is no mean feat. Feeling smug that I have managed to get all three boys up and out the door by 8am, I skip out the door and glance quickly in the mirror as I leave. Oh God. The boys may be all sprightly and bushy tailed, but I look like the tired old lady I really am. I rummage in my bag and grab for two life savers (dramatic, I know, but it’s true) that I discovered on a catalogue shoot that took place outdoors.
Catalogue shoots always use natural make up on the models, and these shoots involve lots of smiling in the photos, so the make up artists need coverage for us models that looks both natural and doesn’t create creases in the laughter wrinkles. The make up needs to work throughout the day whilst the light is constantly changing. Not only this, but the light at certain times of the day can be more harsh than set up indoor studio lights, so the products need to work extra hard.
Covering under eye bags from sleepless nights and giving dull, tired skin an all over, even glow, these two products literally take a minute to apply and can be done whilst running out the front door with the kids in tow. I carry them with me all the time. In fact, they are, thanks to that catalogue shoot, part of my nappy bag essentials. Nappies; wipes; By Terry Light Expert Click Brush foundation; and By Terry Touch Expert Advanced Concealer. Both products have complicated sounding names when they actually do something really simple. They work.
Before rushing out the door, I always use the foundation brush to even my skin tone, give coverage and create an all over glow. The great thing about this product is that you literally click once, and enough foundation comes onto the brush to paint over your face, under eyes and eyelids. Then, all you have to do is dab in the foundation with your finger.
The foundation brush may be enough coverage for you, but, for me, as I haven’t slept more than five hours at a time in the last six years, and am half Indian, so therefore prone to dark undereyes, I apply the concealer after the foundation. I always dab on three dots under my eyes. One below the tear duct, one in the middle of the under eye and one on the outer corner. I then dab the concealer into the skin using my middle or ring finger (more gentle than using the index finger) working my way outwards from the inside to the outside of the undereye.
Right, a couple of clicks of my magic brushes later and now I am ready to go. Where are my keys?!
